Healthy Diet = 1/3 Animal based?

Here’s a throwback post to that viral Alpro Tweet and my thoughts about it..

In this video I share my opinion on the recent uproar among the vegan community after Alpro put a tweet out on 9th Oct which stated that we need 1/3 animal based foods.

With a statement like that from a company that gives it´s mission as being ethical and vegan it is not surprising that there has been a mental reaction from the vegan community. It was a disaster from a PR point of view as the majority of the Alpro clientbase is vegan so this tweet is then telling them that they should be consuming 1/3 animal based foods to have a healthy diet.

This is ludicrous for a plant based company to make this statement. They have just been taken over by dairy giant danone but that is no excuse. Whoever authorised this tweet may not be marketing manager of Alpro for much longer. With the takeover it is understandable from a pure business point of view to start aiming to appeal to meat eaters as well as vegans but this was a big booboo!! Just before I created this video I saw that Alpro had put out a counteracting tweet claiming that the tweet was misunderstood and that what they meant was that if meat eaters changed to eating 2/3 plant based nutrition they would be healthier.

I don´t think this will do much to appease the situation as the damage is done. It is becoming more and more common now for giant meat/dairy companies to take over and buy out successful plant based companies and my fear is that the products will disimprove in the name of profit but time will tell.
